From a contemporary review (10/16/1948):
“ …Being the story of a youthful married pair, beating the GI path through college, and an old professor whom they re-inspire with zeal. …It is the true demonstration of a GI student, which William Holden plays, and, especially, the vivid characterization, by Jeanne Crain, of his wife. And it is also the whole comprehension of the contemporary college atmosphere and the determination of young people to get meaning and purpose into their lives. … “
Written and directed by George Seaton, this movie explores aspects of suicidal ideation, Veterans Issues, Academic policies and the emergence of the post-war generation. Also the value of life-long learning and the downside of mandatory retirement.
