December Movie Night "You Can't Take It With You"

This 1938 movie won both the Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. I know what you’re thinking, a classic Capra film starring James Stewart and Lionel Barrymore, showing as the December Movie Night movie, that’s got to be “It’s a Wonderful Life”. Well, we did that last year. This film follows the interaction of two families. One is a normal family of the time, headed by a Big Business tycoon and the other family is ….. not. Jimmy Stewart is the son of Anthony P. Kirby who has made millions in Defense Contracts and being an SOB. Problem is, Jimmy is in love with his stenographer, Alice Sycamore, who is from a poorer family that eccentric families tend to describe as ‘weird, really out there.’ Needless to say, hilarity ensues, written as a play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart. This is a funny, heartfelt movie that examines Free Culture, the negatives of Capitalism, and the importance of Community. As always, popcorn will be provided, please bring any other snacks and drinks to enjoy and maybe share.
