Common Root was invited to help with Sunday’s “Everyone Belongs Here” Rally held at Jaycee-Kahoa Park in northeast Lincoln. We offered the use of our PA system and 75 free buttons to participants and community members attending the rally.

The rally was organized by fellow teachers and residents of northeast Lincoln in response to an attack on local LPS teacher Jeremy Williams. Jeremy was attacked by a group of people in his vehicle on July 19th in northeast Lincoln while waiting for his ride share customer to come outside. Jeremy’s attackers told him that he did not belong there, then began striking his car and causing damage.*

The rally attracted over 100 people, speeches were made by City Councilman James Michael Bowers, Public Service Commissioner Christa Yoakum, Jeremy’s fellow teachers, rally organizers, family, and others. Participants listened to speeches and enjoyed the company of their fellow community members in the rainy weather, and offered Jeremy support and reassurance that he is welcome in this neighborhood.
